Donna Hegan has lived in Lynnfield for 15 years and moved here from her hometown of Lynn in 1994. Before her retirement in October 2007, she worked as an educator for 35 years with the Lynn Public Schools. Her career included working as a middle school teacher for 25 years and as Vice Principal at English High School for 10 years. When she retired, she began working for the Archdiocese of Boston as a Curriculum Specialist with the Respect Life Education Office.

Donna has been a parishioner of St. Maria Goretti since 2003 and is involved in a variety of church activities. Although her involvement began as a Eucharistic Minister, she has also served as Lector. As Coordinator of “ARISE Together in Christ”, she organizes faith-sharing groups for over 100 parishioners and has found the success of the program to be rewarding. In addition, she leads the Counting Team, in which members take a turn each week being responsible for the Sunday collection. Miss Hegan has also worked as the Food Chairman for our Parish Barbecue. Along with being a member of our Parish Pastoral Council, Donna also chairs the Religious Education Advisory Board.

In May 2008, Miss Hegan graduated from St. John’s Seminary with a Masters Degree in Ministry. She also holds a Masters Degree from Suffolk University and a Bachelors Degree from Salem State College. In November 2008, Donna began her current position as Coordinator of Catechical Services and Evangelization. Since completing coursework in “Lay Presiding at Funeral Services”, she has performed Committal and Wake Services. In April 2009, she will complete her certification as a Spiritual Director.

Donna feels that the faith community at St. Maria Goretti is like a second family to her. Through service to her church and commitment to her faith, she has had the opportunity to meet countless new friends. She strongly encourages others to do the same!
